What classy lady doesn't beer on her chest and a dirty old man on her back?

Thinking Better Of It

Friday, January 5, 2007

In reply to yesterday's post, this comment was posted.

How would you like it if someone assumed you were a pedophile because they merely saw you talking to some kid you didn't know at a restaurant or playground? What if you googled your name and the second entry were some exmo blog with a tangential entry about a trip to NYC and a reference to you in an unsavory light?

think about it.

You know what... You're absolutely right.

The original post was much more intended to point out my foolish behavior (putting myself in a potentially dangerous situation) than it was as an indictment or implication about anyone else.

For starters, I have modified the original story. It now no longer points to that particular situation as anything more than an example of how I could have found myself in real trouble. I'm fortunate my own bad choices didn't land me somewhere really dangerous. The story now also includes a link to this post as well as yesterday's discussion.

Another thing that I have been reminded of is, I think, very important for me to point out. This blog project of mine allows me a level of anonymity and a breadth of audience from which the subjects of my posts don't always benefit. While I often alias the names of the people about whom I write, in this case I did not.

I have gone back and removed the real name of the person to whom I made reference everywhere it appears on this site.

Anonymnity etc.

Although I don't usually write about salacious topics, I still pretty much use pseudonyms for anyone and everyone I write about, unless they are already in the public eye, are big whigs, or have really pissed me off (just kidding). It just seems fair to people, I suppose. I use a pseudonym myself simply to protect my professional interests, although I probably will go back to using my real name once a particular professional leadership position I'm involved in goes away next Fall.

Funny stuff... I had one like that this year... an experience with a local celebrity here in this state...

Pete, after reading the original post I see why you would change his name. You are right, you could have got yourself into a lot of trouble.

I'm impressed

I'm impressed you posted this. Very nice of you to do. Do you think T was that guy from the past? Interesting stuff.

T...

I have more from T. I'll post it later.

  • I've said it before. I'll say it again. I wish this was my dog.

Or is it wish it were? I always get mixed up on the subjunctive case.
